Danu (continued)
Danu felt very fresh this morning. He recited few the subtractions, multiplications and addition tables with Mrs. Trivedi on his way to school.
In the test Danu was all thinking about the gift.
They had drawing competition following day. And he was more excited about it than the maths test. He really wanted those colors. When paper was distributed to all the students Danu attempted all questions. Results were to be declared in the recess. Danu was filled with bag full of emotions. Danu had butterflies in his stomach. He heard teacher announcing his name ‘Danu 30/30’.
Danu out of excitement ran around the benches and hoped around. ‘Danu. …Danu…Danu… What happened?’ Teacher asked. ‘I would get today a drawing book and my favorite colors.’ he said. Teacher looked at him and said ‘Practice more’. He further added ‘Ok show this to your parents and get their signature on the bottom of the page.’ Over excited Danu did not look at the paper. His joy now knew no boundaries. He wanted to fly. He thought of making fishes in the water, birds in the sky and house on the mountain…. and thought of spending whole evening doing this lovely drawing.
His Mom comes to pick him up. His Mom could read his face. ‘Are you ready for the gift?’ ‘I got 30/30 Mom’. Yes I can see that’. She kisses his son softly on his forehead. Proud Mom could see his son waiting anxiously for his gifts.
‘Danu hold my hand while crossing roads…. Danu…Danu wait…
Danu ……’ said Mrs. Trivedi.
Danu out of excitement left his mom’s hand and had started running. He could just see his car then on the opposite side of road.
A scooter coming from the other end of road could not control itself and struck with Danu.
‘Mummyyyyyyyy……..’shouted Danu…..Danu fell of the ground and hit the end of the road. The scooters front wheel was almost on Danu’s leg and his leg was all in blood. ‘Danuuuuu….’ his Mom cried and went near him. By the time she reached there he was unconscious. Blood ran down Mrs. Trivedi’s veins. She thought she almost lost his son. All she could she is herself in labor when Danu was born. First time when she lifted him…His first touch…. All the memories came just in front of her eyes in just 1 second. Her heartbeats increased 10 times more. ‘Help…. help….. Please someone help……..’ screamed a helpless mom.
Mrs. Trivedi rushed to the hospital along with few other people on road. Mr. Trivedi then joined her.
Danu woke up in the hospital that evening 2 hrs later. He opened his eyes. Saw his Mom crying by his bedside and his Dad on other side.
‘Mom …… can I get my drawing book and colors set now?’ Asked Danu…
‘I got 30/30 in exams’
‘Yes baby u can get it after we go home.’
There were no major injuries, as the scooter did not run onto his leg. He had few stitches on knees.
On the way home Danu was not feeling any pain. Still he was over excited and this time he shared his drawing plans with his parents.
His Dad carried him. They were in the House now. Danu tried to reach his school bag his Dad helped him with that.
He brought out this paper and wanted to show to his parents but this time he had a look at it… He could not believe his eyes He got 13/30. His mind became blank. Thought he could never make his fish, trees and birds. He could see them going away from him.
And remembered teacher’s words telling him practice more. He was sulked in sorrow, choked up all inside. He could hardly speak anything. He had no courage to show it to his parents. With big tears in his eyes he began to scratch the floor. Mrs. Trivedi went up to him. She took the paper from his hand. Saw his marks. And said ‘Look Danu what have I got for you.’ Danu looked up. Big tears rolled down his cheeks and Mom gave him his drawing book and colors, wiped off his tears. And said ‘Its ok, But next time don’t draw fishy on wall during test time’. Danu smiled His eyes and nose were still running of water. His mom gave him a tight hug kissed on forehead.
And sat with him and they did drawing together.
Next day in drawing competition he came first.
